Reporting to the Vice President of Legal Operations and Legal Risk Management, this individual will be responsible for conducting investigations of alleged violations of the companys ethical standards and non-compliance with policies, laws, and regulations. This position will ensure that investigations are lawfully and objectively conducted, are thorough in gathering all material facts, and present clear, concise, and factual reports that enable fair and relevant decisions to be taken by business partners. This position is also responsible for recommending proactive measures that will reduce the risk of similar future incidents.

The unique responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the essential functions listed below:

Investigate significant events, collaborating with internal departments, as appropriate, while ensuring confidentiality and attorney/client privilege

Includes working with outside counsel, assisting with early dispute resolution strategies, investigating claims, and litigation support.

Assist legal department with potentially high exposure terminations and investigations, litigation, administrative claims, government audits, and labor grievances.

Assist with early-resolution of pre-litigation employment-related claims.

Research and provide early assessment of facts and law to communicate associated risks to internal clients and colleagues in the legal department.

Track, trend, and report on corrective action/resolution determinations, as appropriate

Analyze incoming claims for liability and identifies and/or recommends risk mitigation

Maintain regular communication and report on significant case developments, litigation trends, updates with internal clients, and lessons learned.

Draft and present legal risk management training.

Manage Compliance Ethics Hotline and investigations

Drive Legal support of Sunrises internal legal compliance efforts.

Manage department metrics and assist with driving automation initiatives

Assist with other legal department objectives and projects


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed throughout this job description are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Bachelors degree or relevant experience

10 plus years of investigations, claims or mediation experience either in Legal or HR, preferably in senior care, healthcare or hospitality industries

Demonstrated knowledge in Federal and State employment labor laws

Proven ability to handle highly confidential information and manage information with utmost integrity

Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills when working with others

Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication and the ability to facilitate small group and large group presentations including trainings

Competent in organizational, time management skills, problem solving and decision making skills

Demonstration of proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) with the ability to learn new applications as needed
