The Risk Manager/Patient Safety Officer is responsible for the facility's risk management and patient safety activities, which includes, but not limited to a general knowledge of hospital insurance programs, managing clinical claims against the hospital, interfacing with defense legal counsel, administering the risk management program on a day-to day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, and conducting risk management educational programs, complying with risk management related standards by The Joint Commission with the objective of maintaining patient, and environmental safety, enhancing quality care, and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the hospital. The Risk Manager/ Patient Safety Officer is responsible for data management, claims management, and education components of the hospital's risk management program. Designs and administers safety systems and procedures to minimize loss from employee casualties, and complies with OSHA regulations. Maintain legal case files and strives to maintain maximum protection from discoverable of such files.Oversees implementation of processes designed to ensure documentation, reporting and early intervention of potentially compensable events. Investigates risks involving or potential injury to patients, visitors, and employees, collects information necessary to prepare for the defense of claims. Chairs Patient Safety/EOC Workgroup in collaboration with Director of Facility Services. Other duties as assigned. Ability to prioritize multiple demands. Knowledge of Hospital Risk, Federal and State regulations, Joint Commission Regulatory requirements, and National Patient Safety Goals. BSN, BA or BS with appropriate course work related to Risk Management. Risk Management/Safety experience in private industry. Healthcare experience preferred. Prior experience that demonstrates clinical and leadership competence. Preferred - Certification in Hospital Risk Management (CPHRM)
