We have an exciting opportunity for a Monitoring Manager within our Office of Ethics & Compliance (OEC) department located at the corporate headquarters in Abbott Park, IL.  As the Monitoring Manager, you will have the opportunity to influence change by developing innovative approaches that help drive continuous improvement of the monitoring program.

Role and Responsibilities

The Monitoring Manager is responsible for development and implementation of global compliance monitoring strategy, tools, and reports, with an emphasis on creating data analytics for use in achieving those objectives.   The scope of compliance monitoring includes, but is not limited to, the following substantive areas: anti-bribery/anti-corruption, interactions with healthcare providers and government officials, promotional practices, third party relationships, charitable contributions, scientific research, patient support programs, and commercial and government contracting & pricing.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Monitoring Manager includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Assist the Director of Global Monitoring and Written Standards in overseeing the global monitoring program by developing tools and analytics for use in monitoring, and creating reports regarding trends and observations for senior compliance leadership
  • Creating, evaluating, and improving monitoring strategy, monitoring templates, and methodology for choosing monitoring samples
  • Training and providing guidance to division/affiliate compliance teams regarding monitoring strategy, use of monitoring templates, , and methodology for choosing monitoring samples
  • Partnering with division/affiliate compliance teams and others to build analytics
  • Collaborating with division/affiliate compliance teams to interpret monitoring observations, determine their root cause, and craft remediation, where appropriate
  • Managing compliance systems enhancements and ad-hoc projects in collaboration with other stakeholders, including IT and OEC/Legal Operations teams, within assigned budgets and timelines
  • Ensure that monitoring strategy is aligned to compliance policies and procedures, and help compliance leadership in developing controls and processes that help prevent and detect deviations from policy and mitigate compliance risks
  • Keep up to date on evolving risk and continuously enhancement the monitoring program to mitigate such risk

    Critical Success Factors

    • Experience developing and implementing data analytics, including identifying sources for relevant information and developing models and/or dashboards that can be used to inform monitoring strategy, conclusions, and decision-making
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to develop reports and materials to inform senior leadership of relevant monitoring observations and strategy
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with people and collaborate across cultures and all organizational levels
    • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to properly prioritize tasks and effectively manage time
    • Strong project management skills, including the ability to exercise independent judgment in managing and executing deliverables and providing guidance to other team members
    • Experience in utilizing computer-assisted monitoring tools, programs, and techniques

      Position/Accountability Scope

      • Accountable to Ethics and Compliance Director, Officer, and senior management in OEC 
      • Operates independently within clear expectations, checking in as necessary with supervisor(s)

         Basic Qualifications

        • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent   
        • Proficiency in MS Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
        • Proficiency with analytical tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qliksense/Qlikview or similar applications
        • Broad compliance knowledge and experience in healthcare industry or related experience with exposure to business functions such as audit, legal, or finance

          Preferred Qualifications

          • Post-graduate degree or certifications like Master of Science (MS), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Compliance and Ethics Professional Certification (CCEP)
