Weigel Broadcasting is a family-owned multi-platform media company based in Chicago, Illinois. The company owns and operates a portfolio of local broadcast television stations and national television networks.  Its station portfolio includes 25 stations in 15 markets (Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Nashville, Denver, Hartford, Salt Lake, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Rockford, South Bend) and includes affiliates for CBS, ABC, The CW, MyNet, Telemundo, and its own nationwide networks. 

Weigel’s five nationwide networks are delivered to its audience via a broadcast partnership with more than 600 television affiliates across the country.  Its networks include:

  • MeTV (Memorable Entertainment Television) - the #1 rated classic television network

  • Start TV – a more contemporary network presented in association with CBS Television
  • Movies! – a network broadcasting the film library of FOX

The Position

Reporting into the CFO, the Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis, will join the Finance and Accounting staff in its Chicago office. The successful candidate is currently a Manager, FP & A or Senior Financial Analyst with a strong track record enhancing/improving financial analysis/reporting to ensure the achievement of business goals. The individual should have a breadth of knowledge across several accounting functions, be an active participant in the financial closing cycles, and be able to manage multiple priorities and adhere to deadlines.

The company’s centralized accounting team remains a lean organization that handles the full range of finance and accounting functions: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit/Collections, Purchasing Controls, Lease/Contract Management, 401K Administration, Treasury Management, General Ledger, and Operational/Legal Entity reporting.

This position is a new role that elevates the analytical skillset within the team and is intended to back up the CFO when necessary.  It requires an individual with a strong background in finance or accounting and an excellent analytical mindset.  

The candidate must be a self-starter, familiar with multiple aspects of accounting.  He/she must guide the monthly closing process via collaboration with the Assistant Controller and must develop an understanding of all financial aspects of the organization to anticipate what needs to be done from a financial and accounting perspective.  It is a hand-on role that will be relied on by the CFO to juggle multiple priorities and problem solve with limited guidance. 


  • Provide expertise in Financial Analysis and Financial Reporting. 
  • Use financial analyses, data trends, and market information to anticipate needs, to identify operational/financial issues, and to make recommendations ensuring the achievement of business goals. 
  • Provide administrative oversight of financial systems, analyze data to identify problems/errors, troubleshoot system issues, and reconcile any differences across multiple software applications.
  • Develop a solid understanding of the company’s affiliate/partnership strategies, as well as their associated financial implications and revenue distribution models.
  • Assist the CFO in the valuation of acquisitions and business opportunities that create long-term growth and strategic value.
  • Monitor orders and sales activity to forecast revenue, to analyze pricing, and to provide the necessary insight into sales performance. 
  • Monitor payables, lease obligations, and long-term liabilities to ensure that all costs are appropriately accounted for and accurately reflected in the financial statements.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or equivalent with 8-12 years of experience in a highly relevant financial analyst, accounting or audit role is required.  MBA a plus.
  • A strong business/financial acumen is expected, coupled with excellent communication skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • A mastery of Excel is crucial.  Must be able to leverage complex formulae and functions to analyze large datasets, develop financial models, and use the software to simplify workflows.  Familiarity with MS-Dynamics SL and Wide Orbit are a plus.
  • Problem solving, reasoning, and logic are essential.
