Corporate Controller

The Controller is responsible for leadership of all internal accounting and financial activity in accordance with GAAP. This individual will be a highly motivated, growth-driven finance and accounting professional driven to increase the efficiency of financial operations and timeliness of financial reporting. This successful candidate rolls up their sleeves and focuses their efforts on growth and capability while ensuring daily operations run optimally. The Controller will serve on the senior leadership team and act as the internal advisor helping deliver data-driven, financial information, interpretation, and recommendations across the organization. The successful candidate will be on a path to become the Chief Financial Officer of the firm.

The ideal candidate must be strategic in nature and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills including strong oral and written communications. The role requires a balance of attention to detail and accuracy with the creativity to look around the corner and give the organization’s leadership team guidance to make informed and smart decision making. They will have the ability to apply the company’s core values, vision, and code of conduct.

Financial Reporting

• Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures. Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls and ensures delivery of timely operational results.
• Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
• Monitors and balances cash flow in and out of the business to meet obligations and optimize investment.
• Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
• Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Financial Compliance

• Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation,
• enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.

Agency Management

• Maintain general ledger ensuring the record of company transactions are made timely. Invoice appropriate parties accurately within the designated terms of agreement.
• Reconcile records on a standardized schedule.
• Maintain banking relationship, manage bank deposits, and cash management/sweep. Conduct monthly and year-end closings with regular, timely updates to ownership.

Agency Operations

• Cultivate culture where team members want to be and deliver top performance as a respected team player.
• Implement resources for engagement, development, and retention of team members. Manage the payroll responsibilities for team satisfaction.
• Track and maintain producer payables to encourage continued efforts. Maintain results by coaching, monitoring, and appraising job results.

BA or BS Degree in Finance or Accounting

CPA or MBA preferred

Five or more years of accounting experience

Insurance agency experience a plus
