  •  Are an amiable and confident team player, eager to partner with leaders across the organization to move us forward.
  •  Demonstrate financial understanding and communication skills that are compelling, establishing trust with colleagues.
  •  Are a mentor and a guide, eager to work alongside your team, jumping in as necessary to meet deadlines and fulfill commitments.
  •  Work well with individuals and teams across all levels of the organization.
  •  Have led change with vision, understanding, and skillfulness.
  •  Have outstanding written and oral skills, and you adeptly translate complex financial data for any audience.
  •  Are comfortable eveloping relationships with organizational leaders and Board members.
  •  Are trusted with highly confidential and sensitive information and, in all matters, operate with the highest integrity.
  •  Have successfully managed significant invested capital funds and are adept at treasury functions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide critical analytical perspectives and guidance to important strategic decisions.
  • Build a robust financial planning and analysis function to improve operational performance.

  • Maintain an appropriate financial model for YMCA that aligns resources to financial strategy.
  • Manage the accounting systems, processes, and procedures to record, monitor, and report on the organization’s assets and liabilities in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and all regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with and support the Chairs of the Audit, Finance, and Investment Committees of the YMCA.
  • Ensure the process and timely preparation of all financial statements and reporting, including regular financial statements to management, regulatory agencies, and the Board.
  • Advise the Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership team on developments in financial management practices and reporting, including potential and actual changes in accounting principles as well as tax, regulatory and reporting requirements for government-funded organizations; advise leadership on ways to improve the efficiency of the organization’s financial practices.
  • Serve as the primary interface with the external auditor and auditing partner; oversee the annual audit of the organization’s financial statements by its external auditors on a timely basis.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field with a Master’s/MBA and CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • 10+ plus years of progressive finance/accounting leadership experience in an equivalent, consumer-facing organization with multiple revenue streams and operations units.
  • Exceptional relationship building and influencing skills.
  • Deep understanding of financial systems and reporting.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a minimum of 7 or more years in a supervisory role leading highly effective teams.
  • Passion for and commitment to the YMCA’s mission and vision.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, engage, retain, and develop top talent.

The mission of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is to develop strong children, families and communities across Metropolitan Chicago through academic readiness, character development, violence prevention, fitness and healthy living.
