Background:
IMPACCT Brooklyn is one of Brooklyn's premier nonprofit community development corporations providing services borough-wide. The organization works hand-in-hand with low- and moderate-income community members and stakeholders to preserve and develop affordable housing, promote commercial revitalization to strengthen local businesses, create homeownership opportunities, protect tenant rights, combat predatory lending practices and prevent home-loss. Founded as Pratt Area Community Council, Inc. nearly 60 years ago, IMPACCT Brooklyn now serves as a catalyst for neighborhood stabilization and revitalization with a focus on Central Brooklyn and has brought people together to build an equitable, diverse, engaged, and flourishing community.
IMPACCT Brooklyn has a budget in the $6 million range which supports a dedicated staff who work tirelessly to insure that people in the community are able to afford to live in Brooklyn. IMPACCT Brooklyn controls about 1010 units of affordable and supportive housing and has an active pipeline. The work will continue to build, and the organization needs to ensure that the Executive Director and the senior team have the financial tools and resources to carry out their duties, including the development of affordable and supportive housing. Guiding the financial planning and supporting the ED and the team is the work of the new Chief Finance and Administrative Officer.
The Position:
IMPACCT Brooklyn is seeking a smart, strategic, highly skilled, energetic and experienced financial executive who has proven leadership in significant management positions to become its new Chief Finance and Administrative Officer (CFAO). Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the CFAO will be responsible for all financial management activities, including budgeting and financial planning as well as oversight of the administrative functions. The CFAO will provide counsel and advice to the executive staff and the Board on all fiscal matters and will oversee and implement financial policies and plans for IMPACCT Brooklyn. The CFAO will also be able to think strategically about fiscal issues related to the changing environment faced by nonprofits in the housing, human services, and community development arenas.
The successful candidate must be able to work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Director and other members of the senior management team and be able to integrate smoothly into the senior management at IMPACCT Brooklyn, fitting into the organization’s collaborative and inclusive culture. They must be passionate about the organization’s work and be able to work with the Board and staff in a collegial, supportive and direct manner in a spirit of mutual trust and with a minimum of ego.
They will be highly collaborative and have the ability to build cohesion and coordination among a diverse team working on a wide range of projects across multiple functions, addressing and solving problems as they arise. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, a hands-on management style, have an ability to listen, and be inclusive of ideas. In addition, they will be diplomatic, of the highest integrity, and possess sound judgment as well as a sense of humor.
