Assistant Public Health Officer – Communicable Disease Controller

The Assistant Public Health Officer / Communicable Disease Controller, who is board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine or other appropriate medical specialty such as Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Preventive Medicine (additional board certification in Infectious Disease is desirable), has overall administrative and programmatic responsibility for the Communicable Disease Prevention and Control program. The CD program investigates and controls cases and outbreaks of all legally reportable diseases except for tuberculosis and STDs/HIV. It also includes the immunization program and hepatitis B prevention program. The CD Controller works collaboratively with managers within the Public Health Department, as well as with key partners in other county departments, such as the Department of Environmental Health, and with physicians, epidemiologists, and infection control practitioners in the medical community within Santa Clara County and at the California Department of Public Health.
Salary: $160,002 - $226,704 Annually DOE Salary range is dependent upon qualifications and is coupled with generous benefits package.

Must be a physician licensed in California, board certified or eligible in an appropriate medical specialty (such as Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Family Medicine), and have significant training and experience to perform the above tasks. The successful candidate will possess at least three (3) years of post-residency experience in disease control or public health. Must have in-depth knowledge of clinical presentation of communicable diseases, infectious disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and control measures. Completion of CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer training, and/or a Master in Public Health or board certification in Preventive Medicine or Infectious Disease is highly desirable. |
