ASSISTANT CONTROLLER, Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF)-Controller's Office, to provide leadership, management, and oversight for the team responsible for a variety of accounting and reporting functions, including operational accounting, conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), compliance, internal and external reporting, oversight of audits, and close collaboration with other units across MIT. Responsibilities include coleading a team of thirty-plus staff (sponsored accounting, general accounts receivable, cashiers, GL operations, financial accounting and reporting, benefits accounting, international accounting, and endowment accounting); coleading the quarterly GAAP close with detailed financial reporting package for senior management and year-end close; overseeing Institute-level financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards and government regulations/guidelines; leading the development of internal control procedures/practices and process improvements; overseeing Institute audits; providing leadership in collaboration with the controller and other senior staff; working with other parts of VPF and other central administrative units regarding financial functions, financial analysis, systems and data, controls, and accounting and reporting; collaborating with MIT's departments, labs, and centers to meet their accounting and reporting needs; identifying areas of risk and assisting with solutions to ensure Institute compliance; developing unit strategies and presenting operational improvement plans to the controller; training and developing staff; and other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in accounting or business; eight-plus years' accounting experience; knowledge of current GAAP; demonstrated collaborative management and team building skills; excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, problem solving and accounting skills; attention to detail; and ability to interact with individuals at various levels of the organization. Master's degree with a concentration in finance/accounting, a CPA, and experience using SAP a plus. Nonprofit or higher education experience preferred. Job #14651-R
