Under the direction of the City Manager, this position will provide leadership to the City’s Finance Department. The successful candidate must have a full grasp of a range of governmental functions, be able to plan and direct various activities of the Finance Department, implementing and maintaining the control expenditure accounting system for the City of Farmington Hills. Extensive leeway is granted to the Director for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. This position calls for the planning, directing, managing and coordinating activities of the department divisions which include Administration, Accounting, Assessing and Treasury. The Finance Director establishes standards and methods for accounting procedures to record, control and report on funds received from various sources, all expenditures and current assets and liabilities. Other responsibilities include reviewing the financial activities of other departments regarding budget preparation and subsequent control, debt and risk management, investments including administering the City Pension, internal auditing and all associated reporting.
Proficient with computers (WORD and EXCEL) preferred and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work with community leaders, public agencies, businesses, clients and the general public. This position requires exceptional presentation skills, including the ability to prepare and present reports, analysis and studies on a variety of technical issues.
