Assistant Controller
West Bank
Purpose: Assist with preparation of internal and external financial statements, including SEC filings and Federal Reserve reports. Perform XBRL tagging of SEC filings. Coordination of information requests from external and internal auditors. Responsible for supervision of accounting related operation functions for the bank and holding company.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Preparation, Review, and Filing of External Financial Reports: Assists Controller with the preparation of external financial statements, which must comply with SEC rules and GAAP. Responsible for creation and organization of monthly, quarterly and annual work papers which provide documentation for financial statement and footnote disclosures. Completion of quarterly and annual disclosure checklists. Responsible for accurate XBRL tagging for required SEC reports. Assist with Section 16 filings as needed. Assist with preparation of annual proxy statement. Responsible for preparing the 401(k) annual financial statements and SEC Form 11-K. (45%)
Preparation of Internal Monthly Financial Reports: Timely and accurate preparation of monthly internal financial statements and related reports. Monitor general ledger activity throughout each month to ensure accurate recording of entries and to identify unusual income and expense items. Monitor recording of quarter end accruals to ensure completeness. Review monthly intercompany elimination entries and month end general ledgers to ensure consolidated financial statements are accurate. Performs monthly review of all West Bancorporation Inc. general ledger reconciliations. Act as backup for recording West Bancorporation general ledger activity. Assist with preparation of West Bancorporation annual budget. (15%)
Assist with Preparation, Organization and Tracking of Workpapers Requested for the Company’s Auditors. Coordinate gathering data to fulfill all information requests received by internal and external auditors and assist with pulling requested data. Assist with ongoing documentation of internal controls.(10%)
Monitor, Research and Implement New Accounting Pronouncements: As new accounting pronouncements are released stay current by reading and/or attending appropriate training. Utilize subscription to Checkpoint to research accounting issues as they arise. Assist Controller with the implementation of applicable new pronouncements and related disclosures. (10%)
Preparation of Federal Reserve Reports: Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and filing of West Bancorporation, Inc. forms FRY-6, FRY-8, FRY-9LP and FRY-9C. (5%)
Manage/Coach Finance Department Staff: Actively coach, motivate, and develop direct reports to achieve daily and monthly tasks, delegating responsibility to assure individual growth. Provide coaching and discipline for direct reports, and ensure policies and procedures are followed. (10%)
Build Strong Communities: Maintain a presence in the Community as an active ambassador for West Bank. Participate in community events, including spending at least 8 hours annually staffing an event (art festivals, community celebrations, etc.), representing West Bank at a luncheon or reception as requested, or participating in a community festival (parade, etc.) or bank-sponsored outreach event. (5%)

Qualifications (Include Education and Experience) BS/BA in Accounting. CPA designation required. 4 - 7 years’ experience in public accounting or public company financial statement preparation. Knowledge of GAAP, specifically of financial institution accounting. Knowledge of SEC reporting requirements and forms. Knowledge and understanding of XBRL tagging preferred. Knowledge of corporate taxation preferred. Strong organizational skills. Good communication skills. Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel and Word. |
